oh. Kau Sai Chau, Sai Kung, New Territories East, Hong Kong, China

Description:

Hun Shin Temple is the only temple on the island of Kau Sai Chau. It was built around the XIX century, recognized as a protected object of UNESCO.

The temple, built in the 80s of the XIX century, was repaired 4 times. The last restoration was carried out at the turn of the XX and XXI centuries, then Hun Shin was declared a historical monument.

Externally, the temple is an inconspicuous squat building of gray brick with a wooden roof. But in simple forms, the nobility of the lines passes through, and bright decorations give the building an elegant look. It is believed that originally Hun Shin was built as a rural temple, which is reflected in its design. It consists of two halls connected by a courtyard, one of which formerly housed a school. The interior rooms are also simple. But on the wall behind the main altar is an interesting fresco. Also in the interior there are objects - models of ancient boats - which confirm the fact that the main parishioners of the temple - fishermen and sailors.
