Nansha Tianhu Palace
On Dajiao Mountain, Panyu District, Guangzhou, China
Description:
Nansha Tianhu Palace, located on the southeastern slope of Mount Dajiao, is the world’s largest palace complex and covers an area of about 100 hectares.
The palace was built during the Ming dynasty, but after the Qing dynasty was destroyed in the first half of the XX century. It was built to worship Tianhu, the goddess of the sea, who, according to legends, helped people in shipwrecks.
The palace we see today was rebuilt in 1996. The architecture of the complex is made in traditional Chinese style, in red and blue tones with gold accents.
In the center of the palace square stands a huge granite statue of the goddess Tianhu, to which sailors still come to receive a blessing before a long road.
