Heiju Temple

196 Nan Hua Zhong Lu, BinJiangLu, Hai Zhu Qu Guangzhou, China

Description:

Haijuan Temple is one of the city’s Buddhist temples with an unusual history. It is located on the southern bank of the Zhujiang River, in the center of Guangzhou.

Initially, the territory of the temple belonged to a private owner and was a flowering garden. But a few hundred years ago, the site was transferred to the construction of the temple. In 1932, it was secularized and, surprisingly, an amusement park was opened in its place, which lasted only a year. After that, the territory was returned to Buddhist possessions.

Many buildings and statues of the temple are new, but the antiquity of this place and the history of the temple are evidenced by centuries-old huge trees. At the gate to the temple you can see statues of the guards Ha and Hen.

There are several halls in the temple, one of them is the hall of the heavenly kings, generously decorated with red ribbons.

Behind him at the pond is a statue of Guanyin, and next to it is a gaze-catching pagoda decorated with images of a laughing Buddha.
