Sanyuan Temple
No. 11 Yingyuan Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, China
Description:
Sanyuan Temple is the largest and oldest Taoist temple in Guangzhou. It is located at the southern foot of Yueshu Hill.
The name of the temple consists of words denoting three verses: heaven, earth and water, of which, according to Taoist theory, the universe consists. The temple was built during the Wing Dynasty, then renamed under the Tang Dynasty, but during the Ming Dynasty it was returned to its original name.
In the walls of the temple, where the air always smells of incense, guests can relax from the city’s busy streets and get the opportunity to see beautiful examples of ancient architecture.
