Guangzhou Baiyun Airport
Description:
Guangzhou Baiyun Airport is one of the largest international airports of the People's Republic of China, serving more than thirty million passengers annually. The airport is located 28 kilometers from the city of Guangzhou.
"Bayyun" in Russian means "white clouds". This poetic name of the airport received from the mountain of the same name, which is located nearby. This airport is also known as New Baiyun. Despite its international status, Guangzhou Baiyun is more specialized in domestic flights and cargo transportation in China.
Today, Guangzhou Baiyun is one of the most congested airports in China. It was built in 2004 to replace the old airport, which had the same name. However, despite the huge terminal and two runways of Guangzhou, Baiyun almost immediately faced a huge influx of passengers. In the future, it is planned to expand the airport and build an additional strip.
