The extinct volcano of Haikou

The road from Sanya to Haikou is about 300 km.

Ma An volcano, located in the vicinity of Haikou, is an extinct volcano. It is one of the most famous extinct volcanoes in the world.

The area around this place was formed into a geopark. The park itself is located in Shishan County, from the center of the city of Haikou only 15 km.

To get to the volcano, you need to overcome the road and steps lined with volcanic magma. In the park you can look into the mouth of an extinct volcano, the entire perimeter of the crater is fenced with protective railings and is a real observation deck.

This extinct volcano is more than 8000 years old, the mountain itself occupies the highest point of the city of Haikou - 222.8 meters. The depth of the crater is 90 meters and its diameter is 130 meters!

Also at the foot of the volcano is a stone village, in which people lived, during the Song Empire, which is more than a thousand years old (State in China, 960-1279).

You can also visit the huge caves, which were formed as a result of uneven cooling of flowing lava from the slopes of the mountain.
