Description:
The bridge of the Century in Haikou got its name, apparently, in connection with the period of its construction, which fell just in time for the change of centuries. The project, launched in 1998, ended with a grand opening on August 1, 2003.
The bridge connected the main part of the city with Haidian Island. It is the largest of the four bridges to reach the island. Its length is 2683 meters, and its width is almost 30 meters. Traffic on the bridge is carried out in six lanes. On both sides of the bridge there are pedestrian sidewalks.
The bridge has a cable construction. Its spans are held by high-strength metal ropes fixed on two reinforced concrete arches, the upper part of which is made in the shape of a triangle. All elements of the bridge are painted white, and in the evening they are illuminated. It is at this time that the most spectacular photos are obtained - a shining bridge against the night sky.
