Temple of the White Horse Baymasa
Description:
The first Buddhist temple in China. It was founded in 68 by Emperor Ming Di in Luoyang. Today, this small building is not only an architectural monument, but also an object of pilgrimage.
According to legend, once the emperor saw in a dream a huge deity who came from the west and exuded light. Deciding, on the advice of the dignitaries, that the Buddha was in question, the emperor set up an embassy in India, which returned to Luoyang with a statue of Gautama and a "42-chapter Sutra."
In honor of this event, a temple was erected. And he got his name thanks to the white horse on which the shrines arrived in Luoyang. Her memory was immortalized in a sculpture that stands next to the temple.
