Tiananmen Square

Tiananmen Square is the largest square in the world, located in the center of Beijing - the capital of the People's Republic of China. It is named after the Tiananmen Gate (literally the Gate of Heavenly Tranquility), which is located north of the square and separates it from the Forbidden City.
An area of 440 thousand square meters (880 x 500 meters) is adjacent to the building of the Chinese Parliament - the House of People's Assembly and the ultramodern Grand National Opera House. Tiananmen Square is traditionally considered the symbolic heart of the Chinese nation.
