Dingling Palace
Yu Ling Lu, Chang Ping Qu, Beijing, China
Description:
Opened in 1956, Dingling Palace houses the first of 13 imperial tombs to be made available to the public.
The tombs are located on the southern slopes of Mount Tianshou, 48 kilometers from Beijing.
Emperor Wanli, who lived in 1563-1620, and his two empresses were buried in this palace. The emperor was in power for 48 years, the most during the Ming Dynasty. His tomb is impressive in scale: it was built by 30,000 workers for six years. Reaching a height of 27 meters, the mausoleum is located on an area of 1.195 square meters. It consists of five rooms connected by marble arches. The central hall consists of three marble imperial thrones and yellow faience offerings.
These and other objects (about 3,000 pieces) are located on the territory of two exhibition halls. Here you can see the crown of the emperor, the clothes of the empresses, jewelry, tiara and other valuable items.
