Longquan Temple

Haidian District, Beijing, China

Description:

The Longquan Temple is the first Buddhist temple to be opened in Haidian.

The temple was built in 951. It is also known as the Spring Dragon Temple. During the Cultural Revolution, the temple was destroyed, and only by 2005 it was fully restored.

On the territory of the temple stands a single-span arch bridge, which is the oldest bridge in Beijing. Two thousand-year-old ginkgo trees can also be seen in the temple. In the restored Mahavira Hall is a huge statue of Buddha by masters of the last period. Another attraction of the temple is the ancient spring Longquan with a slightly sweet taste of water.
