Temple of Remembrance of Yu Qian
No. 23 Xibiaobei Hutong, Dongcheng District, Beijing, China
Description:
The temple of memory of Yu Qian was built on the site of the old house in which he lived, to commemorate his services to the country. Yu Qian was a famous politician and military commander during the Ming Dynasty. In 1449, he repelled the invasion of Mongolian tribes into China, for which he received the honorary title of Shaobao. But as a result of the palace coup, Yu Qian was declared a traitor and executed. Twenty years after his death, Yu Qian was given his name back. The house he lived in was renamed the Temple of Loyalty and Honesty. In 1590, a statue of Yu Qian was erected in the temple. The Temple of Remembrance of Yu Qian was built during the Guangxu period, but by then all the items stored in the temple had long since disappeared.
