Yunju Temple
Fangshan District, Beijing, China
Description:
Yunju Temple is an ancient monastery and Buddhist temple in China, located in the Fangshan urban community, 75 kilometers from Beijing. The construction of the temple began in 616. Yunju Temple is considered one of the most famous Buddhist cultural centers. Many sacred relics are kept here, including the Buddha bone.
The building of the temple consists of six rooms, which are located from east to west. Sutras are engraved on wooden boards of the temple, which is more than 20 million hieroglyphs. Work on these sacred stone tables continued for 500 years, from the Sui dynasty to the Jin dynasty. To keep the boards longer and not dilapidated, the monks hid them in mountain caves. In addition, Nestorian records were found in the Yunzui temple, which historians attribute to the era of the Mongols - the Yuan dynasty.
Since 1961, plaques with sutras and pagodas of the Yunzui temple are on the list of Protected Monuments of the PRC.
