Construction of the Wukesong indoor stadium in Beijing began in 2005. It was built specifically for the 2008 Olympic Games. It was built in January 2008 and became the venue for the final of the basketball tournament of the Olympic Games. In 2011, the stadium was renamed MasterCard Center.
The stadium is designed for 18 thousand people, its area is 63,000 square meters. The stadium was planned to be larger, with an area of 119,000 square meters, but these plans were changed due to reduced funding. The stadium hosts various sports competitions, including basketball, concerts and other entertainment events.
