Nyujie Mosque
18 Niu Jie, Xi Cheng Qu, Beijing, China.
Description:
The Nyujie Mosque is the largest mosque in Beijing. Its main feature is that it looks like a typical traditional Chinese building: a red bunk roof with a carved facade and small windows. The interior of the mosque is different. The prayer rooms are decorated exclusively with Arabic ornaments.
The Nyujie Mosque is also the oldest in the capital of China. It was built in 996 in the Islamic district of Beijing and changed its appearance several times.
Only men pray in the main building. However, next to the main building of the mosque there is a small house for prayers especially for women. There is also a six-pointed observatory in the mosque.
