Yang Jiaoshan Memorial Temple
No. 12 Dazhiqiao Lane, Xicheng District, Beijing, China
Description:
The Yang Jiaoshan Memorial Temple was built in honor of Mr. Yang Jisheng, a Ming Dynasty ministerial adviser known for his honesty and impartiality. The name Yang Jiaoshan is his fictitious name. In 1552, Yang Jisheng was unjustly accused and imprisoned. He was soon executed.
Already during the Qing Dynasty in 1784, the old house in which Mr. Yang Jisheng once lived was turned into a memorial temple of Yang Jiaoshan. On the main gate of this temple is carved the inscription “House of Mr. Yang Jiaoshan”. Even before the middle of the last century, an elm tree planted personally by Mr. Yang Jiaoshan grew in the courtyard of the temple, but in 1953 it was broken by a strong wind.
