Description:
Heavenly Peace Square (Tiananmen) is the largest square in the world. Its size is 440 thousand square meters, which is 20 times larger than Red Square. Tiananmen is the heart of the Chinese nation and has hosted the country’s most important ceremonial rallies for a long time.
Everything changed in 1989. Seeing the political liberalization of the Soviet Union, Chinese students dreamed of doing so in their own country. The beginning of popular unrest was fully manifested in Tiananmen Square, where Chinese youth put forward their demands to the state. The Chinese government did not want to tolerate this, especially in the Square of Heavenly Peace. It was decided to disperse the protesters using military equipment. All this turned into fighting, the exact number of victims of which is still unknown.
Today, Tiananmen Square is calm and open to everyone.
