Watermelon Museum in Daxin
Panggezhuang Town, Daxing District, Beijing, China
About the company:
The Watermelon Museum in Daxing is a kind of “beauty contest” and festival for these juicy red fruits.
A watermelon festival is held in Daxing every year. Until May 25, farmers from all over China bring their watermelons and fight for the chance to win the top prize of 10,000 yuan for the best watermelon. Watermelons compete in categories such as appearance, taste, sugar content and skin thickness. Watermelons are first tried by the judging committee, and then they are offered to everyone.
The Daxing Watermelon Museum was opened in 1988, when the annual May Festival began. During the rest of the year, the museum hosts an exhibition of tools of modern Chinese agriculture, as well as exhibits of folk art.
The building of the museum also resembles a watermelon - it is an original building with a round green roof. There are also rooms where watermelons are grown all year round, which you can buy at the local fair.
