2号 Heng Feng Lu, Zha Bei Qu, Shanghai, China, 200,000

Description:

The Church of St. Theresa and Child Jesus was established in Shanghai in 1931. This picturesque building is built in Romanesque style and is decorated with two towers on either side of the main entrance. The predecessor of the Church of St. Theresa was the temple of St. Joseph, built several decades earlier, which was destroyed during the revolutionary riots in 1927.

The construction of the temple took about a year - the foundation was laid in October 1930, and the following year the church was consecrated in honor of St. Teresa of Lisieux. She is a Catholic saint, a nun of the Carmelite Order. She is renowned for her selfless service to God and the Church and is one of four women who have been awarded the honorary title of Teacher of the Church.

During the Cultural Revolution, the temple was closed, and the building housed a small production facility. However, in 1990, the Shanghai authorities returned the church to the Catholic diocese, and since 1993 regular worship has resumed.
