Confucius Temple Shanghai-Wenmiao
Description:
Shanghai-Wenmiao is located in Huangpu, on Wenmiao-lu and is the only temple complex in Shanghai dedicated to Confucius. The temple was built under the Yuan dynasty in 1294.
Previously, Shanghai-Wenmiao was the prestigious educational center of the district, and today the largest of Shanghai book bazaars is located on the territory of the temple. The architecture of the complex can be traced imitation of the temples of Confucius in Qufu and the Great Temple in Beijing. For all time the temple was rebuilt only a few times: the first time - in the period from 1851 to 1855, Shanghai-Wenmiao was occupied by rebels who made the temple complex the headquarters, the second - in 1955 under the leadership of the city administration was overhauled.
Shanghai-Wenmiao hosts local exhibitions and public events related to the history of Confucius.
