Description:
A few dozen kilometers northwest of Shanghai is a magnificent monument of architecture - a pagoda, built in 1068-1077, during the reign of the Northern Song dynasty. Subsequently, the pagoda underwent several repairs and reconstructions, but retained its unique style and structure. Many wooden details have survived to this day since the construction of the pagoda. In 1974, the stairs on the first floor were rebuilt, and the pagoda was restored.
The length of each side of the first floor is six meters, on the first tier there is a balcony surrounded by elegant wooden railings. The balconies and roof of each next floor are made of brick and wood, and each of the walls is divided into three parts by small brick columns. The pagoda has nine levels and its total height is more than 48 meters.
Inside the pagoda is a hollow tube, the tiers of which are connected by wooden ceilings and stairs. The upper tier is crowned with an impressive spire decorated with beads and decorative patterns. The pagoda gives the impression of a simple and neat construction, being an important example of a combination of traditional styles of different dynasties.
