Songjiang Mosque

77号 Gang Beng Xiang, Song Jiang Qu, Shanghai, China, 201600

Description:

Songjiang Mosque is the oldest Islamic mosque in Shanghai, now operating. The building of the mosque embodied elements of Islamic and Chinese architecture.

Muslims began building the mosque in 1364, towards the end of the Yuan Dynasty. During the Qing Dynasty, the mosque, namely its main hall, prayer hall, corridor, bathhouse and other rooms were restored several times. Only Muslims can enter prayer rooms.

In the courtyard of the mosque you can see lush Chinese gardens and Arab columns. The ancient cypresses growing here are over 400 years old. Muslim shops and restaurants were built outside the mosque. This Shanghai place is interesting for its uniqueness, so a trip to the mosque can change your perception of China.
