Donghai Bridge
Dong Hai Da Qiao, Pu Dong Xin Qu, Shanghai, China
Description:
Donghai Bridge, whose name literally means “Great Bridge of the East China Sea”, is one of Shanghai’s modern architectural landmarks. For a long time it was the longest sea bridge in the world. It is also the longest bridge in Asia.
Construction of the bridge lasted several years and was completed in 2008. The total length of the bridge is 32.5 kilometers, or just over 20 miles. It became a link between Shanghai and the Yangshan island seaport.
The design of the bridge is quite unusual - most of the spans are located at a low level, but technological features allow you to build a bridge for the passage of large ships. Part of the bridge is a cable-stayed structure, and the length of the largest span is 420 meters.
