Xujiahui Cathedral

No.158 Puxi Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai, China

Description:

Xujiahui Cathedral is the largest Catholic church in Shanghai, built in 1910 and also known as St. Ignatius Cathedral.

The building of the cathedral is made in Gothic style.

Masses are held here every Sunday, attended by about 2,000 people.

In 1960, the cathedral was closed for political reasons and did not work until 1978. In 2005 there was a large-scale restoration and reconstruction.

Xujiahui Cathedral consists of two high towers and a ceremonial room between them. Crosses of metal are installed on the towers. The interior of the cathedral is also designed in the Gothic style - frame ceilings, columns and arches.

The walls inside the cathedral are painted in beige color, which gives the impression that the inner room is simply huge.
