The Magdalena River is considered the main and largest river in Colombia. At its beginning there are many waterfalls and rapids. On the Pricarib lowland, its territory is very swampy, the river splits into two arms - Mompos and Loba. In the Loba flow the main tributaries of the Magdalena River - the rivers San Jorge and Cauca. The Magdalena River in Barranquilla flows into the Caribbean Sea.

The water in the river is dirty, on the shore there is a lot of garbage, branches. Iguanas have adapted to live in the garbage. The Betania reservoir was built on the river. The construction of the reservoir led to a decrease in the number of fish in the river. The Magdalena is the navigable river of Colombia. In its lower reaches, a navigable canal leading to the port of Cartagena is laid.
