Lake Laguna de Guatape

Medellin, Colombia

Description:

The lake is one kilometer from the small town of Guatape. It got its name probably because of the very winding coastline that forms small lagoons.

To say that the lake is very beautiful is like saying nothing at all. From its hilly shores opens just a wonderful view. Around it there are many small restaurants, hotels, rental points for boats and jet skis.

The main attraction of the lake (and one of the important sights of Colombia) is the stone of El Peñon de Guatape. This one of the largest rocks on Earth is 650 feet high. Its weight is 10 million tons. In one of the crevices of the stone made concrete steps with a fence, which for a small fee you can climb to the top and see the lake in all its glory.
