Grapefruit is an evergreen tree of the genus citrus, the rut family, as well as its fruit, reaching a diameter of 30-40 cm. Externally, grapefruit is similar to orange, but its flesh is sour and has a bitter taste. Despite this, it is unconditionally attributed to dietary fruits. Grapefruit is presumably the result of natural hybridization of oranges and pomelo.

Until the 1950s, the origin of the fruit was known, but later it was discovered in the 1750s, presumably in Barbados. It was originally considered a decorative plant. Now, grapefruit plantation harvesting is one of the most profitable enterprises in subtropical countries, including Cuba.

The agricultural center of the country, where most grapefruit is collected, is the small island of Juventud. It is there, in February, begins a holiday dedicated to the harvest of citrus fruits. According to the breadth of the Cuban soul, such a holiday lasts several days and nights, flowing into spot festival performances, and ends with a large Grapefruit feast!
