Riga

Home and Cross Gallery.

Description:

Riga is inconceivable without the Dome architectural ensemble, which for seven and a half centuries was the center of the ideology of the German barons and the Catholic, after the Reformation - the Lutheran Church. The Dome Ensemble consists of the Dome Cathedral and monastic premises. The monastery with the cathedral was connected by the Cross Gallery. You will see magnificent colorful stained glass windows made in Munich, Dresden and Riga. You will see the carvings of wood and stone, hear legends and see the bronze cockerel, which was forged in 1595 and decorated the dome of the cathedral for almost four centuries. The Cross Gallery contains exhibits from different places of Old Riga, most of them are architectural details of the destroyed buildings of Riga during the war, for example, court stones of the House of Blackheads. There is also a collection of cannons guarding Riga, which are made by wonderful masters Mikhail Bayer, Hans and Gerhard Mayer. See the layout of the monument to Peter the Great, find out where the first public library was located. If desired, you can listen to the organ concert "piccolo" lasting 20 minutes. Tickets for the concert are purchased at the Domsky box office.
