Description:

The resort town of Jurmala is well known for its wonderful and unique health resorts far beyond the borders of Latvia, but few people know some historical facts from the life of this seaside settlement, a thin line stretching for 32 kilometers along the coast of the Gulf of Riga. Remote suburban and residential settlements with the city center are connected by a highway and 16 stations running parallel to the railway. We will take a walk from Mayori station to Dzintari station, along the way getting acquainted with a variety of local attractions in Jurmal. St. Maiori was first opened to visitors in 1877 as one of the stations of the Riga-Tukums railway line. Near the station there is a sculpture of Lacplesis, one of the heroes of the Latvian national epic. We will get acquainted with one of the extant legends about this epic hero. We will take a walk through the pedestrian streets of Yomas and Juras, where we will get acquainted with the variety of architectural styles and wooden architecture of local masters. During the tour we will learn the history of the construction of the concert hall "Dzintari", as well as visit the eponymous park of culture and recreation. In Jurmala lived and worked well-known Latvian writer and public figure Janis Rainis. We will get acquainted with some episodes of his work and learn interesting facts of his creative biography. At the end of the tour we will take a short walk along the coast of the Gulf of Riga.
