Riga is the jewel of the Art Nouveau.
Description:
Riga is considered one of the most famous centers of Art Nouveau architecture (Jugendstil, Art Nouveau). There are more than 800 buildings erected in this style at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries. You will see vivid examples of different trends of Art Nouveau - facades with luxurious ornaments on Alberta Street and unique masterpieces of national romanticism designed by the first generation of Latvian architects - Konstantin Pekshen, Eugene Laube. One of the most prominent creators of Riga Art Nouveau is Mikhail Eisenstein, the father of the famous film director Sergei Eisenstein. It is his creations that attract thousands of tourists to the quiet street of Alberta with peacocks and proud sphinxes, Valkyries and lions frozen against the blue sky. Any building by Mikhail Eisenstein is an architectural cornucopia; it is music in stone. How many famous people lived in the area! You will see the house where Elena Nurenberg lived, which became the prototype of the famous Margarita from the novel by Mikhail Bulgakov “The Master and Margarita”. You will see the house where the author of popular historical novels Nikolai Pavlovich Zadornov lived, the father of the famous humorist Mikhail Zadornov. In this area lived opera singer Maris Vetre, actor of the drama theater Jurowski and many other famous people.
