Riga Dom
Description:
Dear guests of Riga!
We offer you a tour of the House Church of Riga. Today’s Riga is simply unthinkable without Domsky, which has become the most famous symbol of our city. On June 25, 1211, the land was consecrated for the construction of a new church. Bishop Albert, the founder of Riga, needed a church that, in its appearance, beauty and size, would amaze anyone who saw it and spoke of the undoubted successes achieved by the bishop in Livonia. Saint Mary dedicates Albert to the new church.
You will learn about the history of Domsky construction, numerous fires and floods that caused damage to the building, we will walk through the Cross Gallery and see the most interesting exhibits: a stone font, a Salaspils stone head, an old cockerel who once watched the life of Riga from the Domsky Tower and much more. The stained glass windows of Riga Domskoye are magnificent, they tell about the most important historical stages of Riga’s life.
The pride of the Riga organ of the Riga Domsky sounds here since the 80s of the 19th century. At the time of installation, it was the largest organ in the world. His wonderful sounds can be heard today, attending a concert of organ music.
