Town Hall Square
Description:
The town hall square in Latvia was badly destroyed during World War II. In its center is the Museum of the occupation of Latvia. The museum divides the square into 2 parts: a gloomy part, located close to the river, in its center is a monument to Latvian shooters.
And the second half - near the church of St. Peter, reconstructed, keeps the appearance of medieval Riga. The center is a statue of Roland. The hero monument with a shield and sword is an exact copy, the original is kept in the history museum. It decorates the square and the house of the Blackheads. Inimitable brickwork, original carvings and statues on the walls and roof attract the eye. Especially beautiful house in night lighting. Now there is a tourist office.
In front of the building is the Town Hall. Today it is a modern room, which was restored in the 90s, preserving the architecture of the facade of the XVIII century. Behind the house "lives" almost abandoned quarter: something is repaired, some can not be restored. There's a synagogue here.
