Pharmacy Museum
About the company:
The Museum of Pharmacy in Riga was opened in 1987. The museum is a branch of the Paul Stradyn Museum of the History of Medicine.
The main purpose of the museum is to create an idea of pharmacy as a branch of medicine in its historical development, as well as to reflect the importance of this industry in the development of a healthy society.
The Museum of Pharmacy has six exhibition halls, which present about 3000 exhibits. The exposition is based on the collections of Professor Paul Stradyn, as well as pharmaceutical historian Davis Blumenthal and pharmacist Janis Maizite. In the museum you can trace the evolution of pharmacy utensils from ancient times to the present day, the history and traditions of pharmacies in Latvia, as well as learn about pharmacy and industrial technologies for the manufacture of medicines, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosia and homeopathy. Here you can see medicines produced at the pharmaceutical enterprises of Latvia at the junction of the XX and XXI centuries, and learn the history of these enterprises.
In the courtyard of the museum there is a small garden of medicinal plants, where some unique plants that are used in folk medicine grow.
