The Paul Stradin Museum of the History of Medicine is one of the largest museums of medicine in the world. It was founded on October 1, 1957. The museum was opened to the general public in 1961.

The museum is named after Pavel Ivanovich Stradynia, an outstanding surgeon, oncologist, professor at the University of Latvia and Riga Medical Institute. It was his idea to create a museum of medical history. It appeared with the professor in the 30s of the XX century, when his personal collection of medical exhibits became known among colleagues. Initially, surgery and oncology were most widely represented in the museum collection.

Now the museum collection is constantly replenished. Its main exposition reflects the development of medicine and its branches from ancient times to the present day.

Numerous exhibitions and events are held in the museum.
