Laisves Alley

Kaunas, Lithuania

Description:

The green pedestrian alley of Kaunas is a favorite place for walking in the fresh air of all tourists without exception. Firstly, many shops, souvenir shops, cafes and hotels are concentrated on it, and secondly, you can safely breathe full breast - smoking is strictly forbidden on this street. That's two kilometers of clean air. The pedestrian area of Kaunas resembles our Arbat in its best times.

Laisves is always fun, colorful and noisy. There are many flowers, trees, in glass windows passers-by call colorful goods. When the linden alley blooms, everything is filled with a honey aroma. In clear weather, it is simply impossible to walk along this street with a gloomy mood. The alley is often chosen for a variety of holidays and bright processions, which can be comfortably observed from the balconies of hotels or comfortably settled on one of the many benches with a hot coffee loom.

Here you can easily find what is interesting to you. If you want to go shopping, there are theaters and museums. You can just enjoy the views of fountains, monuments and cityscapes. Here is the Church of St. Archangel Michael, and in the City Garden opened the Musical Theater, the founder of which was Peter Stolypin.

In the park at the theater, a memorial plaque is installed in memory of 19-year-old Romas Kalante, who in May 1972 committed an act of self-immolation at the site in protest against the Soviet occupation.

Translated from Lithuanian, “lijsves” means “freedom”.
