Description:

Pažaislis Monastery is located in the city of Kaunas, on the territory of the forest park, on the picturesque bank of the Neman River in Lithuania. It is an extensive architectural and historical complex, which is a unique example of European Baroque architecture.

The monastery was built at the end of the XVII century, the architects were Frediani and Putini. In 1712, the church of the monastery was consecrated in honor of the visit of the Virgin Mary. During the Northern War of the XVIII century and the Patriotic War of 1812, the monastery was severely destroyed and subsequently closed. Today, the complex is being rebuilt, and it can be visited with a tour.

The plan of the monastery complex is built on a clear principle of axial symmetry. In the center there is a church with a width of 30 meters and a height without a cross of 49 meters. There are also majestic arched gates, alley, living room and courtyards, houses of monks, temple and garden. Particular attention should be paid to the interior decoration of the church, characterized by high artistic value. Every year, the Pazhaislis Music Festival is organized on the territory of the monastery complex.
