About the company:
Kaunas Museum of the Ninth Fort is located in Kaunas, Lithuania. It is located in the Ninth Fort, in one of the forts of the Kovno fortress. At the end of the XIX century, to strengthen the defense of Kaunas, the city was surrounded by eight forts and several artillery batteries. The ninth fort began to be built in 1902 and was completed only with the outbreak of the First World War.
The fort was mainly used as a prison, as well as to house political prisoners on their way to Siberian camps. During the Nazi occupation of Lithuania, the Ninth Fort was called the Fort of Death because of the many tragic events that took place there. Jews from Lithuania and other countries were shot here. With the end of the Second World War, the fort was occupied by agricultural organizations, and in 1958 a museum began to be created here. Today there are several expositions: about Hitler’s crimes in Lithuania, as well as other tragic events. Also erected a monument in honor of the victims of the Holocaust, a memorial at the burial place of the victims of the camp.
