About the company:

The Museum of Ceramics in Kaunas is located in the beautiful white-stone building of the City Hall, or rather, in its underground premises. The museum was opened in 1978 and is a branch of the National Museum of M. K. Ciurlionis.

About 700 original samples of ancient ceramics are exhibited in the exhibition halls. These are utensils for roasting (“terle”), shingles, bowls and mugs, pots, luxurious jugs, dishes for sweet cooking (“palivones”), “boss”, dishes for oil (“lekas”) and others. Next to them are new ceramics products, ethnographic exhibits are presented. The oldest preserved, blackened, but still not broken pottery is about 200 years old. However, most of the exhibits are handmade potters of the first decades of the 20th century. Before this pottery came to the museum, it was used for decades in peasant life, so only the strongest and most beautiful remained. Bowls, vases, dolls, tiles, painted plates, funny figurines set glass tables among the brick arches of town hall basements. A particularly valuable exhibit is an ancient weather vane of the XVIII century, which once decorated the roof of the White Swan.

The museum often hosts thematic exhibitions, including young artists dedicated not only to burnt clay, but also to other materials, such as glass.
