Masjid Negara National Mosque

Jalan Lembbah Perdana 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Description:

The Masjid Negara National Mosque is a symbol of Islam and the spiritual center of Kuala Lumpur residents, seating up to 8,000 people.

The mosque can be recognized by the ribbed star-shaped dome and minaret 73 meters high. The 18 corners of the dome represent 13 Malay states and the 5 Pillars of Islam. The overall appearance of the mosque resembles Islamic pictorial traditions, remade in a modern way. The British architect Howard Ashley and Malaysian architects Hisham Albakri and Baharuddin Kassim worked on the building. The construction of the mosque was completed in 1965. Initially, it was planned to name the temple as part of the Prime Minister, but after his refusal, the mosque was simply called the National Mosque.

The mosque covers an area of 13 acres. Near the building there are magnificent fountains and gardens. You can enter the mosque through an underground passage located near the railway station.
