Skyscraper Menara Telecom
Menara Telecom, 50672 Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Description:
The Menara Telecom skyscraper is the 312-meter headquarters of Telekom Malaysia. The 55-floor building was built in 2001 by Hijjas Kasturi Associates.
The shape of the building evokes associations that are understandable to any Malay with the famous work “The Escape of Bamboo” by sculptor Latif Mohidin: the slightly curved outlines of the skyscraper resemble bamboo, firmly rooted in the ground and at the same time rushing its delicate young shoots to the sky. For Malaysia, where bamboo shoots are a favorite folk dish, it is truly a national symbol.
When designing the building, much attention was paid to creating environmentally comfortable workplaces for staff. For this purpose, 22 outdoor terraces, the so-called “hanging gardens”, were equipped at different levels of the tower. They provide a space for informal communication and the opportunity to relax surrounded by trees and flowers. In addition to office space, the building houses a theater designed for 2,500 spectators, exhibition areas and sports halls, a medical center for employees. In order for parents to work safely, there is a children's day center, so that adults know that their children are nearby and looked after.
On the roof of Menara Telecom there is a helipad in the form of a bowl.
