Petaling Street

Jalan Petaling, 50,000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Description:

Petaling Street is the center of Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown. Here life boils from early morning to late evening and from late evening to early morning. Come here at any time of the day – this street is always crowded and noisy.

In 2003, part of the street was transformed into a kind of pavilion - it was blocked with a transparent roof, and arches decorated in traditional Chinese style were put at the entrances. Immediately from the entrance, a solid ribbon stretches shopping arcades, where you can buy everything you want. On the shelves of multi-colored slides are fruits, immediately there are traders of flowers, pets, medicinal herbs and dried drugs. Behind them are shops with feng shui items, next to you will do a foot massage, relieve fatigue with acupuncture, predict the future and feed from the shelves of countless improvised mobile cafes. Don't leave Pelaling Street without trying traditional smoked chicken rice: the chicken is watered with barbecue sauce and served with juicy rice, soaked butter, fresh cucumber, roasted peanuts and boiled egg. In tea rooms, you will be offered to taste aromatic Chinese herbal tea and eat delicious coconut cakes. It is interesting to visit a Chinese pharmacy, where there are bags of medicinal herbs along the walls, from which healing fees are prepared according to ancient recipes.

On Petaling Street, you can rent inexpensive housing with a minimum of necessary amenities. Even if you are not in the mood to shop, it is still worth a look here to plunge into the colorful mixture of cultures of China and Malaysia.
