Gereja St Peter, Jalan Bendahara, Kampung Bukit China, 75100 Melaka, Malaysia

Description:

St. Peter’s Church is the oldest Catholic church in Malaysia. It was built in 1710 by the Dutch administration. The church houses a bell made in Goa in 1608.

The facade of the building and numerous decorations are a mixture of eastern and western architecture. The Church embodies the unbroken link between the Dutch Catholic Church and the traditions of Melaka. The architecture of the church is recognizable to anyone familiar with the Dutch colonial church.

It is the oldest functioning Roman Catholic church in Malaysia. It is still a traditional place of worship for the Dutch-Eurasian community in Melaka. The church holds a Sunday Easter procession every year.
