Day tour to Sandakan

06:30 Meeting with the driver in the hotel lobby. Departure to the airport of Kota Kinabalu, flight to Sandakan. Recommended flight on the route Kota Kinabalu – Sandakan AK6490.

10:00 Meeting at Sandakan airport with a guide. Departure to Labuk Bay to observe the nose monkeys, where they live in close proximity.

11:30 Beginning of feeding of the nozzle monkeys. Labuk Bay Monkey Reserve was established in 1994 by a farmer who purchased a patch of mangrove jungle to create a palm plantation. However, starting to develop the plantation, the farmer learned about the monkey-carriers living in this area, and their plight. As a result, the farmer decided to create a sanctuary for nose monkeys in this area. Every day, nozzle monkeys return to the feeding grounds to supplement their usual diet with vegetables and fruits.

12:45 Lunch at a local restaurant.

14:00 Visit to the Sun Bear Rehabilitation Center, which was opened in 2014 with the aim of preserving the population of animals and their adaptation to natural habitat conditions. Currently, the center is home to 45 bears who were previously orphaned or were in unnatural habitats. The bears living in the center receive survival skills in the wild, and the staff of the center are foster parents for them.

15:00 Visit the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Center, which opened in 1964. The main goal of the Rehabilitation Center is the adaptation of orphaned and injured orangutans to natural habitat conditions in nature. Living in a “closed nursery”, young orangutans gain jungle survival skills and gradually move to an “open nursery” where freedom of movement increases and dependence on food and emotional support decreases. Most orangutans after this course of rehabilitation achieve complete independence in their natural habitat and fully integrate into the wild orangutan population.

16:00 Transfer to Sandakan airport, flight to Kota Kinabalu. Recommended flight on the route Sandakan – Kota Kinabalu AK6499.

19:30 Meeting with the driver at the airport of Kota Kinabalu, transfer to the hotel. End of the tour.
