Estate of Yves Saint Laurent
Garden Majorel, Rue Yves Saint Laurent, Marrakech, Morocco
Description:
The estate of Yves Saint Laurent has almost a century of history. Initially, the land on which the mansion and garden are now located belonged to the artist Jacques Mojarel. He paid special attention to landscaping, bringing plants from all over the world. Most of his time Mojarel spent in the workshop, so by the time of his death the house itself had fallen into disrepair. The great couturier breathed a second life into it, buying the mansion in 1980 together with his friend Pierre Bergé. Yves Saint Laurent has invested heavily in the restoration of the house and the renovation of the garden. Couturier was fascinated by the beauty of Marakech, he often came to his estate, where he sought inspiration for his works. After his death, Saint Laurent ordered his ashes scattered over the garden.
The mansion and garden are full of all the colors of the rainbow, but against the background of all the diversity of colors, a rich blue color stands out, which contrasts with the brick-red Marrakesh. This color is now called by the name of the first owner of the estate - "Blue Mozharel".
Currently, the garden is open to tourists, and the former studio of the artist houses a museum of Islamic art.
