Tangier

Kasba Fortress

Rue Abdesammoud Guennoun, Tanger, Morocco

Description:

In 1771, the Portuguese built the Kasba on the highest point of the city from the ruins of buildings preserved from the Roman Empire.

You can get to Kasbah from two sides: through the gate of Kasbah from Kasbah Street or through the gates of Bab el-Ass and Bab Khan from the side of medina. Outside the gate of Bab el-Raha in the northern part of the fortress there is an observation deck, which offers a wonderful view of the Strait of Gibraltar and the mountains on the opposite Spanish shore. The main attraction of the fortification is the former palace of Sultan Dar al-Mahzen. Nearby, on the left side of the palace, is the Kasbah Mosque.
