Jose Guadalupe Posad Museum

Aguascalientes, Mexico

About the company:

The José Guadalupe Posada Museum is a museum that presents the original printed plates with which graphic images were created. The museum is located in the historic Triana district of Aguascalientes, where the graphic artist José Guadalupe Posada was born and lived.

The museum was opened in 1972, near the church of El Señ or del Encino, built in the XVIII century. It is administered by the state and the federal government. The area of the museum is small, so there is no bookstore and souvenir shop.

The collection of the museum presents original forms for printing at spreads and rare collections of Posad’s works that have come down to us. Covers for a series of books and music collections are of particular interest to visitors. The main pride of the museum is the several famous characters of Jose Posad, drawn for publication in the newspaper, which are carved and presented in life size. Visitors to the museum, who are familiar with the images of José Guadalupe, are struck by the small size of some plates, which were often reprinted monumentally.
