Saint Cecilia Day

Description:

It's a celebration of Mexican musicians.
This is a holiday of Mexican musicians – mariachi – known today all over the world thanks to the film by R. Rodriguez “Desperado”, a famous song from which, by the way, belongs not to the composer’s pen, but to the Mexican people.

In real life, they may not shoot as well, but they sing beautifully. And they prove this every year, gathering on the day of their patron Saint Cecilia for the festival. A favorite gathering place of the capital's mariachi is Garibaldi Square, named after the Italian general Giuseppe Garibaldi.

Maryachi, like most Mexicans, are very devout, and their profession is called outstanding. But although for many mariachi are surrounded by a halo of romance, in fact, the life of most of them is very prosaic. According to Pedro Espinos Hernandez, chairman of the Mariachi Association of Mexico Mariachi, the most disenfranchised people. The association has been in existence for 60 years, but has so far failed to get either pensions or health insurance from the government. The association includes 2.5 thousand mariachi. It is of little use, but in case of serious illness or misfortune it renders some help to its members.

The mariachi team usually consists of 8-9 people. This is determined by a set of tools. In addition to the violin, ordinary guitar, percussion and wind, the ensemble necessarily includes a small guitar "charanita" and a large bass guitar - "guitarron".

There are women among the mariachi. Every year in Mexico, a national competition is held to choose the best mariachi with the most beautiful voice. She is named "Mariachi Ambassador of the Year" (Embajadora mariachi del año).

Every year, Mexicans prove that they are the most musical nation. Dancing here is a supporting show (not like flamenco in Spain or tango in Argentina). Mexicans want to listen to songs that boil blood.
