2 days Merida - Uxmal - Chichen - Itza
Description:
In order to get to know Mexico better, I recommend leaving the resort area for at least 1 night.
Early in the morning we pick you up from your hotel and head west, crossing the entire Yucatan Peninsula. Let us begin our exploration of the Maya world with the ruins of the ancient city of Uxmal, located an hour from the capital of Yucatan - Merida. The style in which this city is built is so unusual that it is sometimes called the "Baroque Maya" because of the abundance of details and bas-reliefs. The buildings of the city are covered with bas-reliefs, figurines of birds, animals, gods and rulers.
One of the main attractions is the unusual oval pyramid “The Wizard”, the main staircase of which is framed by masks of the formidable rain god Chaak, and the entrance inside is a monster’s mouth. Also in Uxmal you can climb the Great Pyramid, 34 meters high, from where you can enjoy a delightful view of the surrounding area. After visiting the archaeological area, we will stop at a local restaurant where we will be served a delicious dish - languished in an earthen stove, wrapped in banana leaves chicken and/or pork.
In the evening we will check into a hotel in the center of Merida and take a short walk through the colonial city center. We will visit the central square of the city, the cathedral, the house of the founder of the city - Francisco de Montejo and the acting palace of the governor of the state of Yucatan, decorated with paintings depicting important events in the history of the peninsula. After the palace, we will visit the local art center, where you can buy original souvenirs at prices much lower than in the resort area.
On the second day we will visit the archaeological area of Chichen Itza, where we will see the world-famous pyramid of Kukulkan, the largest ball field in Central America, the temple of warriors, where human sacrifices were performed and much more. After a tour of the archaeological zone, we will refresh ourselves in the cool waters of the Ik-Kil Cenote - the most beautiful karst lake-well. Then, on the way to the hotel, we will stop at the small colonial town of Valladolid, where we will have lunch and, if desired, visit the Tequila Museum and can taste its various varieties.
After Valladolid, we return to the hotel.
