Cenote Jitnup Cave
Description:
Cenote Jitnup Cave is a limestone cave in Valladolid. The collapse of the vaults of the cave led to the emergence of a large underground reservoir in which you can swim.
Dzitnup is one of the many cenotes located on the Yucatan Peninsula. Cenote is a collapsed limestone cave, which got its name from the word “Tsonote”, which meant a well in the Maya. The Cenote of Chichen Itza became famous thanks to another cave, which served as a place of human sacrifice.
Jitnup is a more peaceful and friendly place, unstained by human blood. A natural body of water fed by groundwater has become a popular tourist destination. People come here to swim in the cave lake, get some fresh air and admire the bizarre roots of the huge tree, descending down through the limestone sinkhole.
