Church of Santa Rosalia Muleje
Description:
The Church of Santa Rosalia Muleje is one of the most beautiful and visited churches in the city. It was founded in 1705 by Jesuit missionary Haun Manuel de Bassaldois. The construction of the stone church began in 1766. Initially, the church was attended by about 2,000 people. In 1768, when the Franciscans captured the Jesuits, the church was attended by over 300 Indians. However, by 1770, they were all killed and the church was completely emptied.
In 1773, Dominicans arrived and the population was reduced to 100 due to the large number of killings during the fighting. The church ceased to function in 1828 and is now a landmark of the city. All church buildings have now been restored. If you walk down the stairs located inside the church, you can see a beautiful panorama. The sea looks especially impressive from a height of 100 pounds.
